Chi Kung Healing Sounds

This simple, yet very effective qigong, specifically influences our state of mind and cleanses the internal organs. Long ago, Chinese healers noted that our emotions affect the function of our organs and vice versa. A specific combination of sound, breathing, and movement prompts our organs to release negative emotions, clearing the way for better health.

Preparation for the Six Healing Sounds

Choose a quiet spot and take the phone off the hook.  Until you’ve developed a strong inner focus, you need to eliminate distractions.

Dress warmly enough not to be chilled. Wear loose fitting clothes and loosen your belt.  Remove glasses and watch.

Do some physical warm ups including Spinal Cord Breathing, Crane Neck, Turtle Neck.

Wait at least an hour after eating to begin the practice.  However, if you have gas, nausea or stomach cramps, you may do just the Spleen Sound right after eating.

Any time of day is good, before bed is ideal as is the time right after vigorous exercise.  If you are pressed for time do only Lung and Kidney or one of each sound.

During all of the exhalation positions, eyes will be looking up with the head tilted back.  This creates a straight path from the open mouth, through the esophagus, down to the organs and permits a more efficient exchange of energy.  THE RESTING PERIOD IS VERY IMPORTANT.

When the sounds are done sub-vocally – that is the lips, teeth and tongue produce the sound, but it is heard only internally.  This intensifies its power.  All sounds are made slowly and evenly.

Be sure to follow the order of the exercises as given.  This enhances the even distribution of heat in the body.

For maximum benefit, be precise in assuming the position and making the sound for each organ.

ALL EXERCISES ARE BEST DONE IN REPETITIONS OF 3 OR MULTIPLES OF 3.

Warm Up Exercises and Healing Sounds

Sit or stand with feet between hip and shoulder width apart, toes facing forward.

Exercises are best done with the eyes open, breathing in and out through the nose and with the tongue resting gently on the roof of the mouth.

Repetitions in multiples of three are recommended.  Keep the movements soft, gentle and rhythmic, regardless of the pace.

Crane Neck

Inhale, begin exhaling as you bend over at the waist with a flat back and relaxed knees, reaching out with the chin and looking up with the eyes until you are parallel with the floor.

Release and relax and round the head, neck, shoulders and back, pull the navel to the backbone and inhale as you round up, stacking the vertebrae into an upright posture.

 Turtle Neck

Inhale, exhale as you drop the chin to the chest and round down into your shell, look out and create a flat back.

Looking up, inhale as you raise your flat back to an upright position, keeping the knees relaxed, and connecting the eyes to the kidneys.

Spinal Cord Breathing

Inhale as you gently and evenly arch the lower back and the sacrum along with the neck and head, engaging the entire spine in the movement, drawing the shoulder blades together.

Arms have elbows bent and gentle fists.

Exhale and drop the tailbone to the floor gently stretching the spine upward, drawing the chin downward to the chest, drawing the bent arms and loose fists toward the center of the chest.

Repeat until energy is flowing.

Pericardium and Triple Warmer Sound (Heeee with bared teeth, mouth spread wide, air released from corners of mouth)

Element: Supplemental Fire
Organs/Meridians: Pericardium, Triple Heater (circulation/sex)
Color: None
Negative Emotions: None
Virtues: None
Season: None
Sound: Heeee while looking toward the feet and past them

The Triple Warmer sound balances the temperature of the three energy centers of the body by bringing hot energy down and cold energy up.

The optimal position for this sound is lying down, because it is especially useful for promoting relaxed sleep.  The sound may also be done standing looking toward the ground or in a chair looking toward the ground with a flat back.

Lying on your back, with eyes closed as an option, rest hands at armpit level with palms facing toward the feet.  Inhale and fill the chest.

Exhale Heeee, slowly lower the hands just above the body, imagining removing excess heat from the organs like a steam roller.  As the exhale completes, fingertips turn to face the feet and eyes send the energy out past the feet, feel the cool energy coming up from the earth and relax into it.

Breathe normally, feel the heat leaving.  Relax fully.
